Otari was one of the last brands to manufacturer a new tape deck. Founded by Former Teac Engineer, Masayuki Hosoda in 1964, his company produced some of the best tape decks ever made. It may sound funny but Otari is widely considered by industry professionals as the Toyota Tacoma of tape decks! The reason why is that they learned the hard lessons from Studer/Teac/Tascam etc and as a result built one of the best tape decks out there. Also, because of this, the availability of parts is much more widely available; not to mention the serviceability of this deck is much better than say a Technics. One of our favorite decks!

• Disassembled / fixed / cleaned / lubed seized shutoff switch
• Replaced bearings, 14 total: impedance roller 2x 606ZZ, tacho roller 2x 606ZZ,      takeup roller 2x 626ZZ, tension arm 2x 686ZZ, reel motors 2x 608ZZ, 2x 626ZZ, capstan motor 2x 606ZZ
• Rotated lifters / static guides
• Capstan motor: repaired loose / damaged capstan BLDC coils, cleaned and lubricated
• Transport switches hard to activate, dirty internally, disassembled and cleaned / lubricated all switches
• Adjusted reel table height
• Replaced VU meter lamps and cleaned controls in penthouse
• Repaired numerous cold solder joints @ PSU / regulator PCB
• Rewired XLRs to standard pin 2 hot
• Adjusted pinch roller throw / pressure
• Adjusted brakes
• Adjusted reel servo
• Adjusted tachometer gain / quadrature encoder
• Intermittent IPS display incorrect / out: ran down bad molex pin wiring harness to card cage backplane, fixed
• 11^th hour transport failure: no reel torque: ran down problem, reel servo down due to bad 74259 address latch IC on CPU board
• Aligned electronics gain / meter cal
• Aligned repro 7.5 / 15 / 30 ips NAB / AES "MID" position flux = 355nWb/M (+6) - "LOW" position flux = 250nWb/m for 7.5 ips use
• Aligned record with ATR Master tape, overbias 4dB/2dB/1.2dB @ 10KHz 7.5 / 15 / 30 ips
